There are several options and programs for military expenses. What they will cover and how much money they offer depend on many factors. - Perhaps the most common program is the Dislocation Allowance (DLA). It helps cover miscellaneous moving expenses for each assigned move. The maximum allowance for DLA changes each year.
- If you can drive from your current duty station to your new one, the Monetary Allowance in Lieu of Transportation (MALT) program currently reimburses military families $0.17 per mile, per authorized vehicle.
- In addition, a per-diem allowance will help you cover the cost of meals and lodging while your family travels from one duty station to another.
- You may also qualify for Temporary Lodging Allowance (TLA) or Temporary Lodging Expense (TLE). These are available to military families who stay in temporary lodging while they wait for their permanent home to be ready for move-in.
